Quality At Sky Scape Cabins we pride ourselves on exceptional sky high quality. Our logs are the very best available on the market today. All our other materials are perfectly suited to the custom home you have chosen and are specifically hand picked to meet your needs and expectations.
What does a quality log home product entail? Listed below are some of the factors to consider in your decision.
- Is the wood used stable, dry, and free of insects? We use only kiln-dried lumber in our logs, structural beams, and dimensional lumber. When drying the lumber, all insects are killed to cause no problems later. There is no need for additional termite treatment or bug prevention.
- There will be no warping of our logs after they are in place that can happen with yellow pine logs or logs that are not kiln-dried.
- Our other materials such as doors, windows, and interior lumber will be totally suited to they type of home you require. We only use top quality windows, doors, and other interior materials.
- All the connecting and sealing materials have been specifically chosen to seal and make your home sturdy and secure for your lifetime.
- Our expert advice even goes beyond what our log home suppliers recommend. We will help you to achieve a home that surpasses all energy codes, and will withstand hurricanes and storms like no stick-built house can. When the hurricane hits, your home will be the shelter in the storm.
- Bottom line, we provide nothing that we would not use ourselves in our personal home, and we welcome you to visit it by appointment.
Choices We live in a great nation where choices abound and a log home purchase should be no exception. Many log home dealers offer you a choice based on the ONE company they represent. We do not believe in that at Sky Scape Cabins. Variety is the spice of life and many people choose a log home because they are somewhat unique. For these reasons we offer almost endless choices of species, styles, and materials to build your one of a kind log home.
To begin your selection process here are some variations to consider when building your home:
- Wood species for logs: white pine, white cedar, lodge pole pine
- Log style: "D" shaped, post and beam, dovetail, Swedish cope, round both sides
- Finish materials: 2x6 T&G pine (yellow or white); 1x6 or 1x8 white pine or spruce; interior walls of dry wall or bead board; finish floors of red oak, white oak, laminate, or yellow pine; heavy timber ceilings or 2x10; fiberglass doors or insulated steel (and these are just a few choices in the total package)
- Basement and foundation options: block or poured concrete, finish ceilings and walls or just open and unfinished, what type of stairs to use, how to waterproof, how high to build for duct work
- Heating and cooling systems: high energy heat pumps, fireplace and/or gas inserts, where to install for higher efficiency
- Energy efficiency options: what type of insulation, orientation of home on lot, placement of windows and doors, sealing around basement and foundation
